Glossary of Terms
A specific point along a meridian used in acupuncture and acupressure.
These points influence the flow of Qi and the function of the associated organs.
Bai Hui 百會 (GV-20)
Located at the crown of the head.
Used for supporting posture, balancing the nervous system, and improving awareness of vertical alignment.
Bladder Meridian 膀胱經 (Páng Guāng Jīng)
Runs from the inner eye, over the head, down the spine, and along the back of the legs, to the little toe.
Influences spinal tension, rib mobility, and the sympathetic nervous system.
Dantian 丹田 (Dān Tián)
Energy centre in the body.
• Lower Dantian: below the navel, used for grounding, balance, and breath regulation.
• Middle Dantian: centre of the chest, linked with breath and posture.
• Upper Dantian: forehead area, linked with clarity and focus.
DIAPHRAGM 隔膜 (GÉ MÓ)
Primary breathing muscle.
Key to lower abdominal breathing used throughout the series.
Kidney Meridian 腎經 (Shèn Jīng)
Runs from the sole of the foot (Yong Quan) up the inner leg, through the pelvis, abdomen, and chest.
Influences energy reserves, grounding, hormonal function, and breath depth.
Lao Gong 勞宮 (PC-8)
Point in the centre of the palm.
Used for focusing hand intention in Qigong and sensing Qi movement.
Meridians
The network through which Qi circulates.
Each meridian links to an organ system and influences physical and energetic function.
Qi 氣 (Qì)
Life force or functional energy of the body.
Responsible for movement, breathing, circulation, and overall vitality.
Qigong 氣功 (Qì Gōng)
A system of coordinated movement, breathing, and awareness to regulate Qi.
Shibashi 十八式 (Shí Bā Shì)
Means “Eighteen Forms”.
A structured Tai Chi Qigong sequence of 18 accessible movements.
Wuji 無極 (Wú Jí)
Neutral, aligned standing posture used at the start of practice.
Feet hip-width, knees soft, spine neutral, breath low.
Yin 陰 & Yang 陽
Relative qualities used to describe balance in the body.
Yin: stillness, internal functions, conservation.
Yang: activity, movement, outward expression.
Yong Quan 涌泉 (Kidney-1)
Point on the sole of the foot.
Important for grounding and stabilising the legs.
Activated during weight transfer movements such as Playing with Waves.
